In particular the past couple of months I have once again made the rounds, of the local boutiques, and out home businesses, online boutiques, and even e-bay. Welcome!

This blog was designed to help the millions of people of the Indo-Pak descent living in the west. As one of them, I myself have often wished that there was one place on the internet I could go and get all the information I wanted about the latest fashion trends. Like many of us, I had trouble getting good quality outfits. Having the majority of my own family already living the Us, I often times was left having to resort to friends and relatives buying the outfits for us when they went on their trips, or buy from the collection some ladies would bring to sell. This all seemed to be a hit or miss type of situations, if you have someone buy the outfits for you, you have to accept their choice, ad may times you may not like what they bring, but you can't really say anything, since they were so gracious enough to have made the effort for you. Buying from others , you often get a limited variety and very high prices.

So then heading for the internet, it is another whole mess, there are many boutiques, and information but it is scattered, and so confusing. Many of us don't have much knowledge about the fabrics or the latest trends.

We need to learn and understand how to take our measurments, and ideas of design of the kameez, neck, sleeves, saree blouses, etc. And then many of us want nice ethnic/cultural dresses/outfits for our children for an upcoming wedding or Eid, or festival.

Many people are not aware that you can find some really good deals on E-bay.

We may fall in love with an outfit but it seems to be expensive, or we aren't sure about the quality.

With all the question and need for information...I thought to try to make a website which would link people to all the information one might need.

You Don't Have To Be Born With "It"

Having grown up in the US, I was very content with my jeans and Gap sweatshirts. Desi clothes never really became a issue for me. I marveled at the sparkling and feminine affects of sarees, ghararas, lehngas and such, when i would see actresses or others wearing them, but i never transferred that to myself.

When I got married and had to buy a whole new wardrobe, I was in pakistan, and I had absolutely no idea as to what to get. I blindly somewhat followed the advice of well-meaning aunts or chose outfits which looked pretty to me.

Returning to the US and entering upon the married social scene made me become more aware. It was more of a sense of feeling conscious, because even though I might have thought the outfits were nice, I wasn't confident that they suited me.

Anyway some more years of school and young motherhood passed by, without any real reflection upon this issue, after all it seemed a rather trivial one.

Then it came the first Ramadan, then Eid and then some ocassions in a row, which brought me to realize that I was deeply dissatisfied with my desi wardrobe. My friends wore their outfits with grace and they carried themselves so well, and I really felt awkward. In the past I resorted to feeling that this was just not me, and either one had it or they didn't. However now, I became determined and resolved to get to the bottom of why I was lacking self confidence in indo-pak outfits at indo-pak events. So I started to ask a lot of questions from my friends and from vendors. And I learned a lot. Indian/Pakistani clothes had seemed so straightforward, but I realized there is much involved. From the type of fabric, to the color, to type of embroidery, to the type of cut of the kameez and the style of the salwar and so much more should be evaluated in choosing what looks good an individual. I learned all this through trial and error. I made a lot of mistakes but i did not give up, and eventually I had a very good grasp on choosing the best outfits for myself. The wonderful discovery I made was that, although there are indeed those who are naturally born with the ability to look good in anything, however, if you choose outfits which suit you, you will enjoy wearing them, and subsequently you feel confident, which will lead you to almost automatically then carry yourslef with grace and self-confidence!

In future articles I will share with you many aspects of what I learned, in order to help you all out in choosing the best outfits for you.

Measurements/Fabrics/Design Info

Fabric Information

One of the most important elements in determining the quality of an outfit is the fabric. This is something which still confuses me. I did not have much knowledge about the fabrics used in making salwar kameez, sarees or other type of eastern dresses, therefore many times what would happen is that I would see the outfit an I would like the embroidery or color and I would get it, but later I would realize that either the fabrics wasn't durable or that when I wore the suit, it did not match up to my expectations. A friend alerted me to be conscious about the fabric of the outfit. The fabric really matters in the way the outfit will look upon wearing it.

I have found that I personally love soft jamevar, silk, and cot-silk. I also like chiffon and georgette. However, another thing to keep in mind is that there are many blends (sub) of the major fabric, such as chiffon, georgette, cotton, crepe, etc.

I have tried to learn much as possible about the countless types of fabrics, and there is much I have learned, but much still escapes me. Also there is also the element of fabrics having different names or blends in various regions.

Recently I was skimming through the online collection of Utsav Sarees, and i was getting so confused with all the different types of blends; ie: faux crepe, viscose, faux chiffon, faux georgette. I did not understand these blends of fabrics, so i decided to write to Utsav Sarees and ask them to explain about these fabrics. Below I have posted the response they sent.

Pure crepe : Its crisped or wavy appearance results from the peculiar arrangement of the weft, which is formed of yarn from two different bobbins twisted together in opposite directions or uses alternately a right-twisted and a left-twisted thread.

Crepe is thin fabric of crinkled texture, woven originally in silk but now available in all major fibers.

Pure georgette : Georgette is a thin woven silk fabric often of crepe yarn and construction. 3 Piece salwar set in georgette fabric is like a treasure. The soft and shimmering georgette is widely used as the dress for women.Georgette is a sheer lightweight fabric, often made of silk or polyester. It is slightly heavier and more opaque than chiffon. The twisted crepe fibers from which georgette is made gives it a springy quality that makes it seem to move on its own. While this quality makes georgette somewhat more difficult to sew the results are well worth the effort.

Silk : Silk is a protein fibre and usually burns readily, not necessarily with a steady flame, and smells like burning hair most commonly used in all type of Indian salwar kameez,sarees, but mostly in wedding lehenga, wedding salwar kameez, embroidered salwar kameez. The ash is easily crumbled. Silk samples are not as easily extinguished as cotton or linen. Silk is a luxurious and sensuous fabric, one associated with wealth and success.

Faux Georgette : Faux georgette fabric is a bit heavy fabric then pure georgette. This fabric absorb much sunlight then pure georgette. Also it has rough surface.Pure Georgette : Pure Georgette is a thin woven silk fabric often of crepe yarn and construction. It is -a sheer silk or rayon crepe of dull texture. A sheer lightweight fabric. This fabric absorb less sunlight then Faux georgette. The surface of this fabric is quiet smooth.

Faux Crepe:Faux Crepe is not Pure polyester, it is a mix of polyester and lycra brand fabric.Lazer fabric is like a semi georgette fabric and you can also say it Synthetic fabricLazer Georgette: It is a hoarser fabric than pure georgette. In comparison to the pure, it is crispy, very durable, and very much cheaper. It is made from man-made fibers like rayon, polyester etc. It is too a zero-maintenance fabric and very much in trend basically for daily wear garments.

Viscose is a blended variety of cotton.Cotton fibers are blended with rayon.

We deliver to all and any postal address around the world. Courier companies do not deliver to P.O.Box address, so we request you to provide full street address with pin code / zip code.
Please note that residential shipments to USA & some other countries will be left at door if someone is not there to receive the package or no one answers the door bell. Our courier agents USPS / DHL / FEDEX / TNT / UPS / SpeedPost etc will not be able to provide sign confirmation of delivery made in such cases. To ensure that no disputes arise due to this, kindly make sure that someone is there to receive the package when courier delivery is attempted.

No deliveries are made on Saturdays and Sundays in most countries where 5 day work culture.
